Train dog to poop in designated area
Training your dog to poop in one designated area is beneficial for you. As it will easier for you to clean up later. You can choose one place in your backyard or garden specifically for your dog to poop. Giving your dog his/her own bathroom place is saving the rest of your yard clean. You need no worry if your kids playing on yard or stepping in dog’s poop before you clean it.
You can teach your dog to poop in one area of grass or rocks specifically. So it is free from social space. if you live in apartment or house that don’t have backyard or garden. You can focus on one area in your house or apartment like your bathroom. So you can avoid concrete walks outside or bad weather conditions.
Teaching your dog a designated area to poop takes time, repetition, consistency, to get used to new routines. Plan a specific area before you begin to train your dog and avoid changing this specific area. Especially in your house or apartment, be sure you find a place for pooping spot so he/she so your dog not make your house dirty.
If your dog already have house trained, it might be required a little bit of time. Because you retraining your dog in new environment and ask your dog to forget old habits. However, if you have a puppy who is house training for the first time. Teaching your puppy to poop inside your house/apartment or in your backyard/garden is much easier task. It will be quicker and part of the normal house training.
At first time, you will need a leash to direct your dog to the proper location for pooping. If you training your new puppy, it will take up around to six weeks to house train your dog.
Here is the method of using leash to train your dog:
- Use leash to designated place
Leash your dog and walk your dog to designated place and let him/her to sniff the area, so your dog can learn to recognize the place.
- Always go to one specific area
Always remember one spot area that you already took your dog for pooping. Avoid your dog play in this area so he/she can focus on pooping.
After your dog take meals, playing or after having naps, always take him/her to designated area for pooping/bladder.
- Become a habit
Overtime, your dog will get used to going to that specific time every time he needs to poop. If you noticed your dog already frequently pooping in the designated place, you may plan to let go his/her leash.
- Off leash
If you already sure your dog already train well, then you can off the leash now and let him/herself go to designated area.
Sometimes dog use his/her designated area for playing ground, if you found out you can take him/her elsewhere to play. And if in his play ground he/his commit “accidents”, clean it up and take to his/her designated are for pooping.
If your dog have “accidents” in other place, clean it up and ignore the behaviour.
Give rewards your dog for his/her positive behaviour with treats and praise everytime he/she poops in designated area.
